Time to wake up the sleeping beauty

Ok, some of you know my Merc have been sleeping for a while now. Today I went down to my friend Tomas at the body shop and we started to plan for the future.

Here’s what’s going to happend;

1. Re-do the back window and make the trunk lid a bit larger.
2. Convert the 4 door to a 2 door coupe.
3. New engine, tranny and rear axle.
4. Interior.

Stay tuned but be patient. We’ll take it slow and methodical…

Like we didn’t have anything else to do. Here’s a new Sporty project. Kind of a good start even thou it need A LOT of fabrication and parts. To be continued.

POTENTIAL TRIUMPH PROJECT (?)

Having acquired this triumph motor and we’re deciding if we want to move forward with it as the next DePalma Garage Custom.

Keep your eyes peeled for progress in the ensuing months.

To Chop

To chop, or not to chop? That is the question. Just picked up this all stock ironhead for dirt cheap. Runs excellent. Starts right away and it stops! Dual front disk, electric start and a side stand you don’t have to pull by hand are nice things to have. So do we chop or no? We will see….

Buildoff

Here are two eye-sores that have been in our shop. WAY overdue for WAY too long.  After our So-Cal show May 6, its on and poppin. In house DePalma build off. Russ vs. Kris.

Projects, projects and more projects. Can’t we all just get anything done?? You know how the story goes. Your building a project then all of a sudden, a buddy calls and says “Ey man, this dude is selling this/that for cheap. If I had the money I’d get it… you should get it!” Happens to everyone at some point weather it be a car, bike, or a simple part. Thats the case with my 1965 Riviera. With a handfull of other uncompleted junks in the mix, this Riviera was the last thing I needed… Or was it the first?

So this is it. I picked this up a little over a year ago. Orginally owned by some old dude in palm desert. The body is straight, every molding and stock trinket in place. All except for the beat up rag top that was torn off over the years.

Bodywork and prep is messy. So we took the project to my friends garage to dirty his instead. First things first. Strip the thing down to bare metal to see what really goin’ on. Although the body looked straight from the surface, it turns out that this thing has been painted 3 times. All colors being the same as the original color.

Performed some minor cancer treatment by patching a few areas with new tin at the bottom of the quarter panels and around the rear window,  but other than that, were all ready to go for filler.

Primer Down.

Body filled, primed, and blocked. Everything straight. All unwanted accessory holes were filled or shaved.

It wasn’t till after the car was primed that I decided I wanted to add some frenched antennas. Kind of a bad move considering and heat generated can ruin the filler/primer in the surrounding areas. But what the heck. I went for it anyway.

Measure 3 times, drill once…or in this case, twice

Had some scrap 1 1/4″ tube hangin’ around for the sleeves. I just welded a washer and a drain tube at the bottom, and they were good to go.

Tacked the craps into place.

Shave.

Fill.

Stay tuned. Paint is next!
